The Essential Cake Baking Tools

With shows such as the Great British Bake Off growing in popularity, it’s little surprise that the largest industry into which new business are starting is cake baking. Needless to say, this means more cakes for everyone: a marvelous blessing! If you’re looking to get started, there are a few essential tools that you’re just not going to make do without.

Cake tins. Unless you want to turn your oven into a burnt on, cake mix-drenched mess that resembles a rapidly-cooling volcano than anything food related, a wide variety of different cake tins are without doubt an essential part of baking. At the very least, you’ll need a square one and a round one.

A whisk, a spoon and a spatula. Yes, when put like that, they sound like the title of a bad poem. However, if you don’t purchase at least one of each, you’re going to end up with a LOT of cake mix on your hands. And your spouse will probably leave you for being an oddball. Whether it’s beating eggs, sculpting icing or just stirring stuff, all of these are essentials. Repeat after me: ‘These are my utensils. There are many utensils like them, but these are mine. Without me, my utensils are useless. Without my utensils, I am useless.’

A couple of measuring jugs and a decent spoon. Unless you want to end up with some soup that just happens to taste like a Victoria sponge, then you need a way to accurately measure your ingredients. Thus spake the measuring jug and spoon. Purchase both of these, and you’ll never want for measuring equipment again, and all of your baking endeavours will be wonderfully successful. Refuse to purchase them, and your cakes will – and it’s important you remember this – be RUBBISH. And everyone will laugh at your expense whilst buying edible cakes from Mr Kipling. You don’t want that.
